Part of my graduate education included a month long residency at the Burren College of Art (BCA) midway through the program. It served as a place to evaluate and synthesize what you had been doing so far, a place to be out of your comfort zone, hopefully compelling you to experiment, and also as a jumping off point as we headed on our year long trek towards thesis-ing. The experience is difficult to put into words beyond the standard "incredible, unforgettable, etc." but maybe this will suffice: it served as a major breaking point in the direction of my work, caused me torment with questions about my own work that I was having a hard time answering, and I am determined to make it back there a few times if there is any way possible. It was that good.
After my time in the Burren, I put together an ebook about my experience. It is mostly about my work and reflections on what I was thinking about and learning while there. I think this book is a great way to really get inside what this residency was all about.
